The CSRD seems like a major burden for all companies that fall within its scope—but is it really?
By examining the transposition decree and the application of the European directive, we could:
Mark all ESRS (impact categories) as non-material, except for climate (E1), which is mandatory.
In E1, instead of using a GHG inventory or ISO-compliant report, we could simply apply average sector emissions adjusted to company size—since the only requirement is to provide an answer and justify it, not to ensure accuracy or robustness.
How long does that take? Less than an hour.

Auditors will flag the lack of rigour in their report
This report, along with the auditor’s note, will be public and visible to all
Employees, partners, customers, and prospects will know the company is not taking ESG matters seriously—harming its credibility and business relationships
But still—no fine will be issued, because the company is technically compliant with the CSRD!
So why all the fuss around the “Decreto Omnibus”?
Because CSRD is not just about compliance—it’s about transparency. The market will be able to tell who takes sustainability seriously, and who doesn’t. And that has critical consequences. You can’t trade transparency for simplicity—there has to be balance.
The absence of this requirement could severely undermine Europe’s sustainability ambitions.
